:(, Day 12

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 by lifesucksnthenudie

Life sucks and then you die. Leg hurts, and thus unmotivated to do anything, aargh! Damn boring, only bright side of everything is that I feel confident about tomorrow’s exam. I’ll also try to get an appointment for a masseur to see if it could do anything for my leg.

Marathon training, Day 11, Tennis

Tuesday, May 13, 2008 by lifesucksnthenudie

Some windy and freezing outdoor tennis again. With the concrete housing surrounding the tennis court, bumpy court surface and the net with holes in it the whole scenario feels more like Chernobyl than Finland. Why can’t everyone just live somewhere warm..

Sleeping schedule, Day 11, This is madness!

Tuesday, May 13, 2008 by lifesucksnthenudie

So now for 2 weeks now I have woken up everyday before 08 no matter what the time has been to go to bed. It simply doesn’t work, surprisingly ;) One day is easy to go with lets say 5 hours of sleep but when it starts to cumulate you become tired and it’s hard to do any work that requires any concentrating. But because of this tests biggest reasoning has been to improve my self-discipline I will continue as planned but after this month doing some adjustments are definitely necessary. The waking up part has actually become easier with time, even with little sleep it’s easy to get out of bed when the alarm goes of but after few hours the sleepiness hits back and hard!

Marathon training, Day 10, Tennis and Floor ball

Monday, May 12, 2008 by lifesucksnthenudie

It was slightly snowing in the morning so tennis in the afternoon wasn’t such a wise choice.. very windy and fingers froze but overall it already started to feel like last summer with loots of tennis, spirit was high :)

After that we had our faculty’s floor ball session which is a lot of fun always. Our game is more like ice hockey than real floor ball :)

If I was smart I’d still rest my leg from running tomorrow but lets see..

Marathon training, Day 9, cycling

Sunday, May 11, 2008 by lifesucksnthenudie

Due to a great friend I was able to lend a bicycle. I thought that I’d head north from Linnanmaa to Virpiniemi but after 20minutes and endless suburban houses no had no idea where I was, luckily after 10minutes I found myself quite close to the place I had left from. A more familiar route was needed so I headed towards the city center and from there to Nallikari and then back to Linnanmaa. Quite impossible to say how far it was in kilometers since the first 30minutes is quite a mystery but in minutes 93.

Long 90-150minute exercises with a low hearth rate are very good for marathon training and implementing them into my program has lately been top priority. It’s actually funny you are supposed to run slower in the long training runs than in the main event itself..

Now I’ll consume lots milk since it has protein and a recent study showed that from different liquids milk is absorbed by human body the best.

Marathon training, Day 8, walking

Saturday, May 10, 2008 by lifesucksnthenudie

In the name of my leg I took a walk today. Around 10km no idea about the time. For a few years now I’ve wanted a bike, I think ill try to borrow some friends’ bike tomorrow and see how it feels to take it on a spin.

Marathon training, Day 7, running

Friday, May 9, 2008 by lifesucksnthenudie

I started to feel very frustrated about my leg today and I just couldn’t rest anymore. There was no more static pain so I decided to test it on the roads. It started to hurt right away so I got slightly pissed and while not thinking rationally decided to push the rest of the way hard. End result was 2x the pain but a record time by 3minutes(!!!) on my usual 6.6km route.. 31minutes actually.

So even the leg is fucked up it feels good to know that the recent training has brought results. Results are always the best motivator :)

Random thoughts on the summer

Thursday, May 8, 2008 by lifesucksnthenudie

In June I have a month long holiday and I have been trying to figure out what to do.. I looked through what happened last summer in hopes of some inspiration and found this video from Bremen airport on our trip to Bremen, Germany. Below the video shows what happens when you don’t sleep for a few days ;) It was recorded around 0600 and after that when I got on the plane I fell asleep before it took off and woke up when we hit the tarmac again.

Small summary on the first week, Day 6

Thursday, May 8, 2008 by lifesucksnthenudie

Blog traffic

It’s now been a week since the start of the blog. It has received 68 total views and I have written 13 posts. I’ve been too lazy to implement any adsense adds on the pages even though I was supposed to. Not that it would have made any money anyway but it would be interesting to follow that aspect of the progress too. Writing has been easy to keep up, I do it on my spare time while listening to music, it’s nothing that takes up a lot of time. To make everything more interesting for the readers I’d need to develop some type of reporting/statistic system that makes it easier to follow progress on these different areas I have been testing. Yet I haven’t figured a good way to do that so it’s going to have to wait.

Diet

What comes to my ‘diet’ (I hate that word) there hasn’t been any problems yet. Partly the reason is that the point is not to live in hunger but rather eat in a more healthier way than what I was used to. I eat fruits daily and try out different salads on a regular basis both which I before never bought. Maybe the hardest part has been when friends have offered you to eat something you are not allowed or asked you to come with them for a pizza and stuff like that. It’s too early to say anything on my weight yet and also with the practice amounts it’s obvious that some of the fat will change into muscle (at least hopefully). I have also cut almost all caffeine which was not mentioned in the first post but I still allow my self 1-2 cups coffee a week. More on that decision later.

Training

My leg has been worse again today. I still strongly believe that it will get better in the near future but to keep up the training amounts it would be good to find some other sporting activity that doesn’t put so much pressure on the bones/joints like cycling. Too bad I don’t own a bike :/
